First Outdoor Sketch in a Long Time!

(Please click on picture for a larger version!)

I got inspired to go outside to the park and draw this old mansion that sits right on the edge of the park. I have looked at it so often, thinking I should draw it, but being too afraid of people who might look over my shoulder. This post by Paula Becker inspired me to not put it off any longer! Go take a look at her blog, if you didn´t do it already! It´s really great! Now, for my fears... noone looked over my shoulder! I sat down right in the middle of the lawn. Only one man walked past me and all he did was smile at me! I only worked at this one sketch. It took me about two hours. Two hours of pure bliss! So why didn´t I try it before? This stupid fear! I always waited, if I couldn´t find someone to come along sketching with me. But fact is, that none of my friends who live in my area draw or paint. So how long did I intend to wait? Crazy! So thanks Paula for inspiring me to go outside and draw! Now I´m sooo happy!!!

Good Lord, If I could sketch that well, I wouldn't be a bit shy about anyone looking over my shoulder. My sketches are pure chicken scratch compared to this. FABULOUS. =o)

Hey Bea! I commented on your sketch on my blog and will do the same here. I think you did a FANTASTIC job on your house sketch, but most of all, it's about how you feel/felt during and about the activity. The rush and enjoyment you describe of your experience is even more important than the end results, yes? I'm really happy to hear you had such a good time during your two-hour solo sketching time. Now you're inspiring ME to keep at it! Keep sketching and posting!

Kelly: Thank you so much! And I will!

Paula: Thank you so much for your comments, too! It really means a lot to me! And you are right about the experience of drawing being more important than the end result! It made me sooo happy! And now, when I look at this drawing it always reminds me of the great time I had. And I´m glad, I can inspire you, too! Nice to know, I can give something in return!
